Rule Of Law improved dramatically once fitted with a visor as a 2yo and, having won a York maiden by 7l on his first start in headgear, he continued to climb the ranks and produced a taking performance when defeating four previous winners in the Listed Acomb Stakes back at the same track; the son of Kingmambo finished an admirable third in the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes on his final start for David Loder, but it was as a 3yo, when in the care of Saeed bin Suroor, that he really fulfilled his potential; having finished second behind North Light in the Dante Stakes at York on his debut for Godolphin, he found only Sir Michael Stoute's colt too good for him in the 2004 Epsom Derby; looked to be crying out for a sterner test when fourth in the Irish equivalent later in the month and duly warmed up for a crack at the St Leger with an impressive success in the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes back at York; he didn't disappoint at Doncaster three weeks later either, gaining a hard-fought head success over his main market rival, Quiff, and providing Kerrin McEvoy with a first Group 1 success on British soil; retired to stud
