Brilliant Godolphin colt Broadsiding continued his meteoric rise when he was crowned Champion Two-Year-Old of the 2023-24 season at the Australian Racehorse of the Year Awards in Adelaide on Tuesday, 8 October.

Guests, media and industry dignitaries gathered at the Wolf Blass Event Centre inside Morphettville racecourse to witness head trainer James Cummings accept the award, his second in the category after training Microphone (Exceed And Excel) to success in 2018-19.

Cummings praised his staff and the entire “team” at Godolphin Australia for helping mould Broadsiding into a champion juvenile.

Broadsiding, by Too Darn Hot, debuted in a Ballarat maiden and went on to win four Stakes races in his first racing preparation.

His win in the Listed Fernhill Stakes over 1,600m at Royal Randwick on 13 April preceded victory in the G1 Champagne Stakes at the same track and distance a week later.

Freshened before heading to Brisbane, Broadsiding put up a remarkable performance to come from the tail of the field to win the G2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm on 1 June before returning with a dominant victory in the G1 J.J. Atkins Stakes over 1,600m a fortnight later.

Broadsiding did not contest the G1 Golden Slipper or the G1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes in his two-year-old year, but from four wins and two placings amassed prize money of $1,944,675.

The colt, who also claimed the NSW Two-Year-Old of the Year award last month, resumed with a fast-finishing victory in the G1 Golden Rose for three-year-olds at Rosehill Gardens on 28 September to give Cummings his 50th G1 winner.

Broadsiding is favourite for the G1 Caulfield Guineas over 1,600m in Melbourne this Saturday.
