Sulamani was a top-class middle-distance performer; unraced at two and trained by Pascal Bary as a 3yo, he won the 2002 Prix du Jockey Club from Act One and finished second to Marienbard in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe later that year, one place ahead of High Chaparral; subsequently joined Godolphin and immediately landed the Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic on his 4yo return in 2003; split Alamshar and Kris Kin in the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, before being awarded the Grade 1 Arlington Million (following the demotion of Storming Home) and easily winning the Grade 1 Turf Classic Invitational at Belmont Park; stayed in training as a 5yo and enjoyed another successful season, finishing third to Doyen in the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, but bowing out on a high with wins in the Group 1 Juddmonte International and the Grade 1 Canadian International; he was most effective between 1m2f-1m4f and acted on any ground; occasionally wore a tongue-tie
