Alabaster steps up to Grade Three level for the US$250,000 Iowa Derby over an extended mile on dirt at Prairie Meadows, USA, on Saturday, June 27.
The three-year-old Medaglia d'Oro colt, trained by Eoin Harty, kept on to finish fourth over the same distance in an allowance optional claimer on turf at Arlington Park on June 6.
He made five appearances on dirt at Tampa Bay Downs over the winter, readily taking an allowance optional claimer, also over an extended mile on March 27 and scoring in a mile maiden on January 31.
Alabaster, ridden by Julio Felix for the first time, opposes nine other three-year-olds including Prairie Mile winner Hillbilly Royalty, Rebel Stakes fifth Paid Admission and dual Oaklawn Park scorer Allied Air Raid.
