Consistent mare Alegria should have conditions to suit when she bids for an all-important black-type victory in the G3 Belle Of The Turf Stakes at Gosford on Friday, January 8.
With two of her three wins having been achieved on wet tracks, Alegria (John O'Shea/James McDonald) seems certain to have heavy going for her latest assignment.
Alegria also gets out to a distance that should suit her at 1600m and is racing against her own gender after giving weight all round in open company at her last two runs.
"She's certainly shown she handles the wet and there's not much doubt she'll get those conditions on Friday," O'Shea said.
"This looks a nice race for her against fillies and mares with a nice barrier and under a suitable weight scale."
The daughter of Medaglia d'Oro has raced twice in her current preparation, running creditably to fill the minor placings on both occasions.
Last time out at Randwick she looked the winner at the 200m and was still finishing on when third over 1400m.
Her previous run was equally promising when third over the same course and distance.
Those efforts came after Alegria had established her consistency with three wins and two placings from her first seven starts.
"There's some nice fillies in Friday's race, but I think Alegria will run her usual
honest race and be very competitive," O'Shea said.
