Allergic steps up to an extended mile and a half for the first time in the Group One William Hill South Australian Derby at Morphettville, Australia, on Saturday, May 9.
The three-year-old son of Street Cry, representing John O'Shea, has gained two easy handicap wins at Cranbourne recently, readily winning an extended 10-furlong contest on April 24 and scoring by three and a half lengths over marginally shorter on April 10.
He was eighth when having no luck in running on his only previous Pattern race appearance in the Group Two William Hill Alister Clark Stakes over a mile and a quarter at Moonee Valley on March 20 and scored by 10 lengths in a maiden over just short of nine furlongs at Sale on February 20.
Patrick Moloney, who partnered Allergic to both of his wins at Cranbourne, is in the saddle again.
John O'Shea commented: "I think Allergic has a real genuine chance. From gate one, he should get a beautiful run three or four pairs back on the fence. He is fit, has had plenty of racing and is really starting to learn his craft.
"At some stage in this race, I think he will look the winner and, if his rivals are in a bit of strife from their wide gates, he might manage to sneak away with a Group One."
Allergic takes on 15 others including Group One Schweppes Oaks heroine Delicacy, Listed winner Manapine and Group Three scorer October Date.
