A successful graduation to Listed company is set to be followed by another step up for the high-quality filly Ambience who is entered in the G3 Ethereal Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday, October 17.
Ambience (John O'Shea/James McDonald) passed the biggest test of her short career with flying colours in Listed company at Randwick on October 3, powering away from some handy three-year-old performers over 1600m.
In that race, Ambience accounted for a field that included colts and geldings, but on Saturday is opposed only by fillies.
The extra 400m of Saturday's race is another positive for the daughter of Street Cry who has steadily improved as her races have become longer.
"It's another step up for her, but I expect her to cope with it," said trainer John O'Shea.
"She was dominant last start and even though she's up against some in-form fillies, she has a touch of class.
"The other thing is the 2000 metres - she's really going to appreciate it."
Among Saturday's opposition is the classy filly Honesta who like Ambience is yet to miss a place in four starts.
But O'Shea is impressed with the maturity Ambience has acquired during her current preparation and believes it will carry her through Saturday's race.
"She travelled down from Sydney really well and has settled in beautifully," he said.
"There's no reason to think she won't reproduce the same sort of run as she did last start, she's improved in her attitude and she's maintained a high level of fitness."
