Appleby 'delighted' as Godolphin visitors target Caulfield, Cranbourne

Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby has expressed his delight at the progress shown by his four-strong team at Werribee and outlined plans for Kidmenever to run in Saturday's G2 Herbert Power Stakes at Caulfield and Folkswood to tackle Sunday's Listed Cranbourne Cup.

Kidmenever and Folkswood galloped together at Werribee on Saturday, their final piece of serious work prior to their first starts in Australia -- and their Newmarket (UK)-based trainer said he had received only positive reports of the hit-out.

"We fitted the winkers (cheek pieces) to Kidmenever and he led Folkswood in the first part of the gallop," Appleby said.

"At the finish, they were upsides, which is what we wanted, so the experience will have served them well. Glyn Schofield will ride Kidmenever in the Herbert Power, while Kerrin McEvoy has been booked for Folkswood in the Cranbourne Cup.

"We will also pay up for Folkswood in the G1 Caulfield Stakes on Saturday to keep our options open," he added.

Appleby is expected to analyse an up-to-date going report at both Caulfield and Cranbourne, and study the make-up of the fields for both races.

He also had upbeat reports about Francis Of Assisi, who goes for the G1 Caulfield Cup on October 21 and Qewy, who heads for the G3 Geelong Cup on October 25.

"Both have settled in very nicely, and if they can perform up to the standard of their efforts last year, we will be happy. Qewy is ready to have a crack at trying to win to back-to-back Geelong Cups, which would ensure him a place in local racing history.

"Overall, I am very happy with how the four horses have travelled and settled in. This weekend will tell us a lot," he added.
