Impressive Meydan winner Baccarat kicks off his European campaign in the G3 Connaught Access Flooring Abernant Stakes over six furlongs at Newmarket, UK, on Thursday, April 14.

The Charlie Appleby-trained seven-year-old overcame a 495-day absence to register a decisive win in a turf handicap over the same distance on February 25 in the UAE.

He started his career in the UK and won the prestigious six-furlong Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot in June, 2014, before going on to finish a creditable eighth in the G1 Betfred Sprint Cup over the same trip at Haydock Park later the same year.

William Buick, who rode Baccarat to victory at Meydan, is in the saddle again. Charlie Appleby said: "We were delighted with Baccarat's run out in Dubai and he has shipped back in good form.

"His win at Meydan wasn't surprising because his work beforehand had been so good. He had been working with Safety Check and Jungle Cat, so we were confident that he would be competitive.

"We will be keeping an eye on the ground. He has a bit of form with cut in the ground but we wouldn't want to see much more rain.

"I think he can run a good race at this level."

Baccarat, exiting from stall two, meets 11 rivals in the Connaught Access Flooring Abernant Stakes.
