Godolphin's Free Wheeling ran the race of his career when third in the US$1-million Group Two Godolphin Mile Sponsored By Meydan Sobha on dirt at Meydan, UAE, on Saturday, March 28.

The seven-year-old, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, was the fastest away from the stalls under James Doyle before being settled in second on the inside.

He then was a close third and moved up to second again, switching off the rail.

Free Wheeling was asked to challenge the leader Frankyfourfingers entering the straight and ran on.

He kept on strongly in the final furlong, despite being bumped by the weakening Frankyfourfingers, to finish third, beaten a length and a half and a short-head by the winner Tamarkuz, whose time was 1m 36.81s, and the second Sloane Avenue.

James Doyle said: "It was a cracking run by Free Wheeling.

"He's a tough horse and doesn't know how to run a bad race.

"This race was a tough ask on paper but he's risen to the challenge and had a smooth run around, which helps."
