Tarquin ran on to take third in the Group One Moët & Chandon Champagne Stakes over a mile at Royal Randwick, Australia, on Saturday, April 18.

The two-year-old Hard Spun colt, trained by John O'Shea and ridden by James McDonald, broke well from the stalls and was settled in sixth of the nine runners towards the inside.

Tarquin moved slightly closer turning in and came wider to try and take up a challenging position.

He was still sixth entering the straight and, asked to improve, produced a good late run inside the final furlong to snatch third, a length and a half behind the winner Pasadena Girl whose time was 1m 38.03s on soft turf.

John O'Shea said: "Tarquin slogged home bravely."He was never comfortable in the shifting ground at any stage of the race but had the audacity to fight and fight right through the line. It was a really good performance."
