Conditions suit Alizee in Randwick G2 test

The process of establishing the standing of Godolphin’s classy crop of Australian three-year-olds continues at Randwick on Saturday when Alizee steps out in the G2 Furious Stakes.

Already a winner this term, Alizee has the services of Sydney’s premier rider Hugh Bowman as she attempts to make amends for a close and gallant second placing in similar company at Rosehill two weeks ago.

With trainer James Cummings confident the daughter of Sepoy has improved since that effort and with the likelihood of her securing a more suitable run, the stable is looking forward to another strong performance.

“Alizee has come on since her close second at Randwick behind Formality who she meets again,” Cummings said.

“She was outside the leader in that race and got a bit keen, but I was delighted with her run.

“I think she’ll be better suited in a slightly bigger field with a better tempo here and with the opportunity to get some cover will help.

“But she still needs to lift now that she’s getting into set weights company against some very nice fillies like Formality and Champagne Cuddles.

Also at Randwick, the stable takes on the champion mare Winx with Allergic in the G2 Chelmsford Stakes.

Winx is attempting to take her winning streak to 19 on end and Allergic is given no realistic hope of beating her.

But Cummings and his team still regard the Chelmsford as an important race in a preparation that could lead to the G1 Metropolitan at Randwick and the G1 Caulfield Cup in Melbourne.

“We had every intention of getting him up in distance quickly following his first up run against weight-for-age horses in the Warwick Stakes at Randwick last start,” he said.

“We were pleased with how he hit the line. This won’t be any easier, but we look forward to getting him back to handicap class later on.

“He’s received the tick of approval for what he’s done so far, he’s trained on and he’ll get his chance in the right race.”
