Exciting filly Dance Sequence maintained an unbeaten start to her career as she stayed on powerfully to catch Skellet in the final strides of the G3 Godolphin Lifetime Care Oh So Sharp Stakes at Newmarket, UK, on Friday, 13 October.

Successful on the July Course on her only previous start, the Dubawi homebred was held up towards the rear of the seven-strong field by William Buick.

Dance Sequence found herself last when the pace lifted passing the three-furlong pole before quickening between horses to go third with a furlong and a half to race.

Having passed Star Music for second inside the final furlong, the Charlie Appleby-trained juvenile made relentless headway on Skellet, getting up near the line for a neck success.

Charlie Appleby said: “Dance Sequence delivered what we expected, and the fashion of her win impressed me. We know there is a tailwind and at halfway I would have said that Willliam was not in the position he would like to be in, as James [Doyle, on Star Music] had dropped anchor on the front end.

“Willliam had a lot of confidence in Dance Sequence coming here and she will have learnt plenty. Even though the winning distance was a neck, I was confident she was going to get there once she hit the rising ground.

“We have purposely taken our time with her. She has shown signs of weakness, so we wanted to give her time, and we will put her away now with a view to the Guineas trials in the spring.”

William Buick said: “I am very pleased with Dance Sequence. She was learning on the job and it was quite a messy race in that regard. There was not much pace on and she lost her action a little bit going into the dip, as they can do here through greenness. Her debut was on the July Course, which is flat until you meet the rising ground, so today was a different ball game.

“I was pleased with how quickly she re-gathered her momentum and she was well on top at the end. She has plenty of good qualities, as well as the size and scope for next year. At the moment, I think she is right up there [in terms of Classic credentials] and we know that she is going to improve.”
