Daumier proves a Diamond to bring up first G1 of 2022

Hugely exciting juvenile Daumier secured Godolphin’s first G1 victory of the year when narrowly prevailing in a thrilling finish to the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
The Epaulette colt provided Godolphin with a second success in Victoria’s most valuable two-year-old race in the space of four years as he edged out Revolutionary Miss and Jacquinot to emulate the 2019 winner Lyre.
Lyre went on to form part of a clean sweep for the royal blue silks behind Kiamichi and Microphone in the G1 Golden Slipper and Daumier will also be pointed towards the world’s richest juvenile contest at Rosehill in three weeks’ time.
A red-letter day at Caulfield also saw Cascadian take out the G2 Peter Young Stakes, a victory that set last season’s G1 Doncaster Mile hero up for big assignments in either the G1 Australian Cup or the All-Star Mile.
Hellfest also played her part in a good weekend in Australia as she flew home under the lights at Moonee Valley to get up on the line in Friday’s G3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes.
Royal Fleet proved a fitting winner of the race named after his grandsire, the G3 Dubai Millennium Stakes, at Meydan on Friday, with the son of Dubawi battling back to get the better of Star Safari.
On the same card, Nations Pride added his name to the list of potential European Classic contenders with an impressive display in the Jumeirah Derby. A Derby trial in the UK is on the agenda for the Teofilo colt, who has now won his last three starts.
It was an up-and-down week for William Buick, who was crowned Flat Jockey of the Year at Friday’s Professional Jockeys Association Lesters Awards but missed out on rides in Dubai and Saudi Arabia due to a positive COVID-19 test.
The Dubai World Cup Carnival reaches its climax this week with Super Saturday. Previous winner Barney Roy features among the contenders for the G1 Jebel Hatta, with Godolphin set to be strongly represented in a number of races throughout the card.
Anamoe will be hoping to follow up his recent G2 Hobartville Stakes success when he tackles the G1 Randwick Guineas on Saturday. The Street Boss colt has won both his previous starts at the Sydney track, including a dominant victory in last season’s G1 Sires’ Produce Stakes.
