Fillies To Shine At Moonee Valley

A change of gear and a change of scenery could be the key to a return to form for the talented filly Painted Firetail when she runs in the G3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday, February 26.

A change of gear and a change of scenery could be the key to a return to form for the talented filly Painted Firetail when she runs in the G3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday, February 26.

Painted Firetail (John O'Shea/James Winks) is joined in the race for three-year-old fillies by Calaverite (John O'Shea/Patrick Moloney) and the pair have the credentials to make their presence known.

All of Painted Firetail's five starts have been in Sydney where she has scored a win and two placings, all in restricted company.

But O'Shea has found an ideal option in a bid to get some black type for the filly.

"I wanted to move some of the fillies around between Sydney and Melbourne and this race came up at the right time for her," O'Shea said.

"She'll also have blinkers on for the first time which could be a help to her."
Calaverite's two runs this time in work have both been in Melbourne and she should be at her peak on Friday.

"She's a winner at Moonee Valley which could be a big plus for her," O'Shea said.

"This shapes as a suitable race, it isn't over-strong and she is a filly with some ability."
