Romsdal returned to his best with an excellent third in the Group One King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored By QIPCO) over a mile and a half at Ascot, UK, on Saturday, July 25.
The John Gosden-trained four-year-old, runner-up in the Ladbrokes St Leger last season, was ridden leaving the stalls to lead and soon held a length advantage over the field.
William Buick kicked for home on Romsdal entering the straight and the Halling colt rallied when headed by Postponed passing the two-furlong pole.
He battled on bravely after being passed by Eagle Top approaching the final furlong to go down by just under four lengths in total on soft ground.
Postponed edged out Eagle Top on the line in a thrilling finish, scoring by a nose in 2m 31.25s.
John Gosden said: "Romsdal wants a trip and there was no point making it a falsely-run contest. He has gone a nice even gallop and run a lovely race."
