Ottoman finished third in the six-furlong Group Two Coolmore Furious Stakes on her first start of the season at Royal Randwick, Australia, on Saturday, September 5.
The three-year-old Exceed And Excel filly, trained by John O'Shea with James McDonald up, raced a bit keenly in fourth of the nine runners but was then tucked in towards the outside.
Switched widest in the straight, Ottoman came through to challenge over a furlong out, holding every chance, but flattened out inside the final furlong.
She was beaten three and a half lengths by the winner Speak Fondly, whose time on the soft turf was 1m 10.64s.
The other Godolphin runner, Calaverite (John O'Shea/Sam Clipperton), finished seventh after being held up towards the rear before making no impression in the straight.
John O'Shea said: "I think it was an advantage to be hard against the inside rail today. Ottoman was travelling four-deep and her condition just gave out late. This was a good start and we can get her back on top of the ground in a fortnight."
