The John O'Shea-trained juvenile ran a fine race to come home a close sixth in the Group One Tooheys New Golden Slipper over half a furlong further at Rosehill Gardens on March 21.
He was a clear second in the six-furlong Group Two UNSW Todman Stakes at Royal Randwick on March 7 and filled the same position behind stable companion Haptic at the same course in a Listed race over half a furlong shorter on February 14.
The two-year-old son of Exceed And Excel made an impressive debut on October 25 with a comprehensive win in a conditions race at Rosehill Gardens.
John O'Shea commented: "Furnaces has done particularly well since his easy week following the Golden Slipper and has freshened up nicely.
"He has obviously had some good tough seasoning races since the start of this year and it has just been a matter of keeping him happy and healthy during this time.
"He seems to have rounded off his preparation with an excellent piece of work. He comes into this race in fine form, dropping back in grade and dropping back to a suitable distance. There is no doubt he will be in the finish of this race."
