Furnaces Blasts Rivals In Kindergarten

Furnaces won the Group Three Widden Kindergarten Stakes over five and a half furlongs in good style at Royal Randwick, Australia on Monday, April 6.

The two-year-old Exceed And Excel colt, partnered by James McDonald, raced in fourth towards the outside, chasing the leaders.

He moved up entering the straight and challenged in third one and a half furlongs out.

Furnaces hit the front by the furlong-pole and ran on under a hands and heels ride to win well by half a length from Regatta Rebel in 1m 4.88s on heavy ground.

John O'Shea said: "Furnaces was too strong for the opposition, so it was a good result.

"He has been very consistent all season, racing very well against the top level and he got the job done today.

"That's what we've come to expect of James and it was a great team effort.

"That'll be it for Furnaces for the moment. I think he's earned a nice break."
