Furnaces races in Group Two company for the first time in the six-furlong UNSW Todman Stakes at Royal Randwick, Australia on Saturday, March 7.

The two-year-old Exceed And Excel colt, trained by John O'Shea, battled on gamely to take second behind Haptic in the Listed Dx Solutions Lonhro Plate over five and a half furlongs at the same course on February 14.

He made an impressive debut at Rosehill Gardens on October 25 when scoring by six and a half lengths in a conditions race.

John O'Shea said: "Furnaces has jumped out of the ground since his trial last Friday and he did a nice piece of work on Tuesday.

"He is really in the zone and has made dramatic improvement from his first-up run.

"From gate two, he gets the opportunity to either lead or stalk the speed and I think we will see a really nice colt here.

"He will improve again going into the Golden Slipper but I couldn't be happier with this colt and hopefully he gets back into the winner's circle here."

Furnaces, ridden by James McDonald for the second time, lines up against four juveniles headed by the unbeaten pair of Headwater and Vancouver.
