Generalife swooped to capture the Group Three Irresistible Pools & Spas Star Kingdom Stakes by the narrowest margin at Rosehill Gardens, Australia, on Saturday, March 28.
The five-year-old son of Lonhro, trained by John O'Shea and ridden by James McDonald, was slow into stride alongside stable companion Sidestep (Nicholas Hall) in the field of 10 for the six-furlong race.
He soon raced in sixth and was kept towards the inside turning for home before being switched right to the far rail.
Generalife came with a strong run to take a narrow lead inside the final furlong and held on in an exciting finish, winning by a nose from Target In Sight in 1m 9.64s. Sidestep finished ninth.
John O'Shea declared: "Generalife did a great job; he is always a bit slow away but James McDonald got him up on the inside beside Sidestep.
"He was two-wide on the corner but coming out of the bend he switched back to the inside rail and was really strong through the line.
"This horse loves Rosehill and he is competitive at anything up to 1,400 metres.
"Generalife could have his next run in the Hall Mark Stakes at Royal Randwick in three weeks."
