Two-year-old colt Ghaiyyath gained a comprehensive success for Charlie Appleby in a mile maiden at Newmarket, UK, on Thursday, September 28.

Making his second start, the son of Dubawi raced prominently throughout and quickened clear entering the final furlong for James Doyle before going on to score by five lengths on ground described as good to soft, soft in places.

Charlie Appleby commented: “Ghaiyyath is a mile and a half horse and we just wanted to keep the lid on him today, so that is why we went out in front to get into a nice rhythm.

“What he showed us today is what he has been showing us at home. To be honest, when I saw the rain come down this morning, I thought I would have preferred to see him on a sounder surface but he is a lovely horse.

"He has a bright future and we will potentially put him away for the year now."
