Ghisoni Confirms She Is One Of The Best

A filly who is "capable of anything" has presented Godolphin's Australian team with multiple G1 choices following her brilliant victory in the G3 Glenlogan Park Stakes at Doomben on Saturday, May 28.

Ghisoni (John O'Shea/James McDonald) drew high praise from her trainer and rider following a race-record win that confirmed her place among the best sprinting fillies in training.

"Only the best can do what she did today. We knew she was outstanding and couldn't be happier that she's more than lived up to what we thought she was capable of," said her trainer John O'Shea.

"She went into today's race with improvement to come, so we'll take some time now to look at all the possibilities.

"There are two choices, the Stradbroke Handicap and the Tatts Tiara. They are both G1 races so we'll have a good think about where we go over the next few days."

McDonald expressed total confidence in Ghisoni, whichever race she tackles. But the situation poses a dilemma for the jockey who would be unable to make the filly's weight in the G1 Stradbroke.

"For my sake I hope she doesn't go to the Stradbroke, but the team will make the decision which is best for her," McDonald said.

In a bold move, McDonald jumped Ghisoni smartly from her outside gate and positioned her outside the leader with the pair setting a solid speed.

With 400m to run he began winding her up and the pair took the lead with 250m to run and Ghisoni found another gear, easily holding off Cradle Me to win by a length-and-a-quarter.

"She's magic," declared McDonald. "She's got so much improvement in her, she's capable of anything."

Ghisoni established herself as something special with wins at her first three starts with the Glenlogan Park her fourth win from six appearances.

While there is little doubt the daughter of Lonhro would have outstanding prospects in whichever race is chosen as her main target, the choice is confused by the possibility that she might not make the field for the G1 Stradbroke run at Eagle Farm on June 11.

"Because she's a three-year-old filly, she will only get around 50kg in the Stradbroke, so the decision may well be out of our hands" said Godolphin Australian managing director Henry Plumptre.

Should she not run in the Stradbroke, Ghisoni would go for the G2 Dane Ripper Stakes on the same program and then the G1 Tattersall's Tiara, a race restricted to fillies and mares, two weeks later.

Ghisoni's victory came on a day that also produced stakes placings to Malice who was third in the G3 Lord Mayor's Cup and Mogador, the runner-up in the Listed Queensland Day Stakes.
