Ghisoni Has G1 Goal In Sight

A path that is intended to lead to G1 success for the talented filly Ghisoni begins in the G3 Glenlogan Park Stud Stakes at Doomben, Australia on Saturday, May 28.

A choice of targets has been on offer for Ghisoni (John O'Shea/James McDonald) since she began her latest campaign with a record-breaking victory at Randwick in February, and her performance on Saturday will determine her ultimate goal.

"This was always going to be the starting point and all being well she will run again in two weeks at Eagle Farm," said trainer John O'Shea.

The decision confronting the stable is whether to run Ghisoni in open company in the G1 Stradbroke Handicap or against her own age in the G2 Dane Ripper Stakes on June 11. Should the second option be taken, the daughter of Lonhro would then proceed to the G1 Tattersall's Tiara, also at Eagle Farm.

"A lot will depend on how she runs this weekend. The Stradbroke is there, but the Tatt's Tiara is for fillies only and it might be the more suitable race," O'Shea said.

Ghisoni is one of six Stakes-race contenders for Godolphin at Doomben, each of whom holds a strong winning chance.

In the G2 BRC Sires' Produce Stakes, Souchez (John O'Shea/James McDonald) will be looking to add to the stable's tally of 23 two-year-old wins for the season.

Already a G2 winner, Souchez produced a nice finishing effort to take third place in a similar race over 1200m at Doomben earlier this month and O'Shea is confident the colt will appreciate the extra 150m of his latest assignment.

"The best part of his race last time was the last bit, he's trained on well since that run and should get the chance to settle nice and close from a good gate," the trainer said.

The promising staying three-year-olds Unbreakable (John O'Shea/James McDonald) and Eschiele (John O'Shea/Damian Browne) tackle the G3 Grand Prix Stakes, coming into the race off strong showings at their most recent starts.

"Unbreakable got to the front a bit soon at Caulfield last start and just got caught and Eschiele got into a lot of trouble at Doomben and lost his chance. They've both drawn wide unfortunately, but they're in form and very fit," O'Shea said.

"We've also got Malice in the G3 Lord Mayor's Cup which should really suit him well after a couple of solid runs at his last two in similar strength races" O'Shea said.

The Godolphin contingent is completed by Mogador in the Listed Queensland Day Stakes.
