Beautifully-bred filly Gloriette indicated she had ability to match her pedigree when she recorded a debut placing in the G3 Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington on Saturday, November 7.
Gloriette (John O'Shea/James McDonald) produced the best final section of the race to take third place, a length behind the winner Power Trip.
A diminutive filly by Lonhro from the Redoute's Choice mare Viennese, Gloriette is closely related to two of Australia's most successful young stallions, Snitzel and Hinchinbrook.
Despite her lack of stature, Gloriette displayed great tenacity to stay in touch with the pack and then chase them to the line, taking ground off the first two over the final 100m.
"She's shown us a lot and she ran right up to what we've seen at home," said trainer John O'Shea.
Gloriette had also shown talent in public, winning an official trial at Cranbourne last month in preparation for her racecourse debut.
She is the second classy two-year-old filly produced by Godolphin in the first few months of the Australian season with the stable also having won a Listed race in
Sydney with Calliope who is regarded as the best of her age and gender seen so far.
Gloriette jumped cleanly from her inside gate and remained with the group on the far rail when the field split to both sides of the Flemington track.
With those on the grandstand side establishing an early lead, McDonald waited until the final 200m before asking Gloriette for her effort.
"She really got going in the last 200m," he said.
"The good thing was that she did it all without being pushed. She's got great manners and really good ability."
