Godolphin and Dubawi have both been honoured by the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association, who announced the winners of their statistical-based awards for 2024 on Wednesday, 29 January.
A superb year in the UK saw Godolphin clinch the Queen’s Silver Cup, awarded to the leading British-based Flat breeder, for an 11th time.
Highlights for Godolphin-bred horses in 2024 included Notable Speech winning the 2,000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes, and Champion Two-Year-Old Shadow Of Light completing his own G1 double in the Middle Park Stakes and Darley Dewhurst Stakes.
Dubawi received the BBA Silver Cigar Box, which goes to Britain’s leading sire by earnings, for a record-extending 10th occasion. The world's most successful active stallion also claimed the British EBF Barleythorpe Stud Silver Cup, presented to the British-based sire with the highest strike rate.
Flagbearers for Dubawi in 2024 included Notable Speech and Rebel’s Romance, who was crowned Champion Turf Male Horse at last week’s Eclipse Awards following an outstanding campaign that culminated with a second win in the Breeders’ Cup Turf.
Sam Bullard, Director of Stallions at Darley, said: “Everyone at Godolphin is delighted that the Queen’s Silver Cup is heading back to Dalham Hall Stud.
“2024 was a tremendous year for both Team Godolphin and the Darley Stallions and it is very fitting that Notable Speech, by our flagbearer Dubawi, has contributed to both the leading breeder award and to Dubawi’s double success.
“Dubawi continues to excel at the highest level and is now being challenged by his own sons as the future Champions in waiting. We are incredibly fortunate to have him.”
