Godolphin has made the decision to retire Contributer and Complacent due to minor tendon injuries to both horses.

Contributer arrived in Australia as the winner of two stakes races in England, but it was in his new home that the son of High Chaparral earned the title of Australia's Middle Distance Horse of the Year with Group 1 wins in the Chipping Norton Stakes and Ranvet Stakes.

"He was the weight-for-age champion of Australia who possessed an amazing turn of foot and a lovely demeanour," said his trainer John O'Shea.

"His loss is a great blow for the stable, he will be a very hard horse to replace."

Contributer retires with the record of 18 starts for eight wins, two seconds and two thirds and prize money of A$1.175 million.

Complacent, a locally-bred son of Authorized, proved himself a model of consistency and a horse of rare courage.

Unplaced only twice in his 11 starts, the highlight of his career came in the 2013 G1 Spring Champion Stakes. He then finished second in the G1 Victoria Derby after which he spent almost two years side-lined by injury.

Returning in the spring of 2015, he won the G2 Chelmsford Stakes and the G3 Craven Plate.

"As well as tremendous ability, he had an enormous will to win," O'Shea said.

"He was also a magnificent specimen and a real character around the stable who will be missed by the whole team."

Complacent retires with racetrack earnings of A$913,000.

Stud careers for Complacent and Contributer are yet to be finalised.
