Good Desmond Stakes third for Zorion

Zorion, racing at his favourite track, ran well to finish third when stepped up in class for the G3 Desmond Stakes over a mile at Leopardstown, Ireland, on Thursday, 16 August.
The four-year-old colt, who has won twice at Leopardstown this year, chased the leaders under his usual rider Kevin Manning and raced in third of the eight runners by half-way.
He had every chance when improving towards the outside a furlong out and kept on without threatening the winner, just holding on to third at the line. Zorion went down by three and a quarter lengths and a half-length to the winner Pincheck and the second Masaarr respectively.
The winning time came to 1m. 41.36s on ground described as good.
Trainer Jim Bolger commented: “Zorion ran a very good race and I was happy with how he performed. “Hopefully, he will win a Group race before the end of the season over seven furlongs or a mile.”
