Hidden Gold stayed on strongly to finish second in the Group Three Markel Insurance Fillies' Stakes over 14 furlongs at Goodwood, UK, on Thursday, July 30.

The four-year-old filly, representing Saeed bin Suroor and ridden by James Doyle, broke well and tacked across from her high draw to settle in second last of the 14 runners.

The daughter of Shamardal was switched wide in the home straight and quickened well to go third passing the furlong-pole.

Hidden Gold continued to make good headway, taking second in the closing stages, but could not challenge Simple Verse, who prevailed by a length and a half in 3m 0.79s on good going.

Saeed bin Suroor said: "Hidden Gold ran a good race. I decided to give her a break after her last race at Ascot and, physically, she looks much better now than when she did then.

"She had a hard winter and the break has done her a lot good. She looks really well.

"I think two miles is a better trip for her. There is a two-mile race for her at York that she could go for, but we will keep her options open and see how she comes out of this first."
