The five-year-old, trained by John O'Shea and partnered by Sam Clipperton, ran disappointingly on his reappearance earlier this month on heavy ground but did much better this time.
Malice raced in fourth initially towards the outside before being settled fifth of the 10 runners as a good pace was set up front.
The son of Teofilo, switched out to make his challenge in the straight, came through to take third inside the final furlong and kept on well to go second in the closing stages, a length and a half behind the winner Forget whose time was 1m 29.64s on good ground.
John O'Shea commented: "Malice began well and travelled steadily in mid-field on the outside around to the corner.
"From the top of the straight, he kicked away and chased the winner to the line. I was pleased with his effort - he appreciated being back on dry ground - it was a much improved performance."
