Hartnell steps back up in class and distance for the Group One Yellowglen Turnbull Stakes over a mile and a quarter at Flemington, Australia on Sunday, October 4.

The John O'Shea-trained four-year-old kept on at the same pace to come home fourth on his first start of the season in the mile Group Two Tattersalls Club Chelmsford Stakes at Royal Randwick on September 5.

The son of Authorized won on two of his four starts last season, headed by a superb success in the Group One BMW over 12 furlongs at Rosehill Gardens in March.

Hartnell was also successful in the Group Three McGrath Estate Agents Sky High Stakes over 10 furlongs at the same course and chased home stable companion Contributer when second in the Group One Liverpool City Council Chipping Norton Stakes over a mile at Warwick Farm.

John O'Shea reported: "Hartnell's preparation has been first class. He looks great, his work has been really good and his trial since his unlucky placing first-up in the Chelmsford Stakes has really helped him.

"He worked well on Thursday morning, is stepping out to 10 furlongs and is more than capable of winning.

"My only concern is that there does not appear to be much speed in the race and, from gate 15, we intend to ride him very conservatively.

"As long as he has a good day out, attacks the line and does everything right I will be more than happy. He is in wonderful form and this should lay a good foundation for his progression into the Cox Plate (Group One, 10f, Moonee Valley, October 24)."

Hartnell lines up against 15 others including George Main Stakes runner-up Royal Descent, Australian Guineas second Alpine Eagle and recent Listed scorer Amralah.
