Herald The Dawn was the decisive winner of the Group Two Galileo EBF Futurity Stakes over seven furlongs at the Curragh, Ireland, on Sunday, August 23.
The two-year-old New Approach colt, trained Jim Bolger and partnered by Kevin Manning, was settled as third of the four runners.
The full-brother to Dawn Approach moved up to second before the quarter-mile pole and came through to deliver a challenge to the leader Now Or Never by the distance.
Herald The Dawn ran on well to lead inside the final furlong and went away to succeed by a length and a quarter from Now Or Ever in 1m 26.59s on yielding to soft going, with Shogun a further four and a half lengths back in third.
Jim Bolger said: "The conditions were not ideal for Herald The Dawn but he overcame the adversity and I am very happy with him.
"He is a late May foal, whereas Dawn Approach was born in April, and he did not quite come to hand as quick, but he is making up for it now.
"We have the Group Ones in Ireland, England and France to choose from. The reason we ran today was to find out if we could get through the going.
"That performance will lead him being a bit versatile with regard to the backend races.
"I would see him being a Guineas horse rather than a Derby one."
