Crittenden takes a step back up in class for the G1 Hollywood Derby over nine furlongs on turf at Del Mar, USA, on Saturday, November 28.

The Eoin Harty-trained three-year-old makes a third consecutive appearance at the Southern California racecourse, having gained a neck success in the mile non-graded Let It Ride Stakes on October 31 and finished fourth in the nine-furlong G2 Del Mar Derby on September 7.

He finished fifth on his only previous G1 start in the Secretariat Stakes over a mile and a quarter at Arlington Park on August 15 and was beaten a neck at the same course in the G3 American Derby over a furlong shorter on July 11.

Eoin Harty said: "Crittenden is in top-class form. He reached out and found something when he had to in the Let It Ride Stakes, which is one of his characteristics - he really loves competition and seems to give everything.

"He got a terrible trip in the Del Mar Derby, when he was carried wide, and the winner that day had it all his own way in front. Even through Crittenden was caught wide, he still finished running on. I think we would have been a lot closer with a better trip.

"I think he has been a little overlooked in this race and he definitely has a chance of running well."

Crittenden, with Mario Gutierrez in the saddle for the first time and drawn seven, opposes 14 rivals including Om and Royal Albert Hall, who were first and second in the Del Mar Derby, plus G2 Woody Stephens Stakes scorer March.
