Godolphin completed a notable G1 double at Keeneland’s Fall Meet over the weekend, with East Avenue and Immersive propelling themselves to the head of the two-year-old ranks in the United States.
East Avenue became the third Godolphin homebred to take the Breeders’ Futurity in the last six years as he emulated current Darley stallions Maxfield and Essential Quality with a stunning win in Saturday’s highlight for juvenile colts.
A son of Medaglia d’Oro, East Avenue is out of a half-sister to dual Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile hero Cody’s Wish, who also stands at Jonabell Farm, and the Brendan Walsh-trained colt will be hoping to secure his own Breeders’ Cup success in next month’s Juvenile at Del Mar.
Immersive had already highlighted her considerable talents with victory in the G1 Spinaway Stakes on a wet track at Saratoga and the daughter of Nyquist looked equally at home on a quicker surface when comfortably taking Friday’s Darley Alcibiades Stakes.
Trained by Brad Cox, Immersive also looks set to head to Del Mar for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, with only Countess Diana (1997) having won the same race on the back of victories in the Spinaway and Alcibiades.
Godolphin’s two-year-old contingent in the UK will be hoping to add to the success at this week’s Dubai Future Champions Festival at Newmarket. Desert Flower bids to maintain her unbeaten record in Friday’s Fillies’ Mile, while Ancient Truth and Shadow Of Light remain in contention for the Darley Dewhurst Stakes 24 hours later.
Broadsiding proved himself as Australia’s top two-year-old last season and the Too Darn Hot colt will be hoping to add to a winning return to action in the Golden Rose when he tackles the Caulfield Guineas on Saturday. Traffic Warden, who was runner-up in the Golden Rose, will wait a week after he was announced as Godolphin’s contender for The Everest later in the month.
