Knoydart returns from a break in the Group Two Gilgai Stakes over six furlongs at Flemington, Australia on Sunday, October 4.
The John O'Shea-trained six-year-old made three appearances at Doomben at the end of last season, most recently when finishing down the field in the Group One AAMI Stradbroke Handicap over just short of seven furlongs on June 6.
He was third in the Group One James Boag's Doomben 10,000 over the same distance on May 23 and was runner-up, beaten three quarters of a length by Hot Snitzel, in the six-furlong Group One Group One Ubet BTC Cup on May 9.
Knoydart, with regular rider James McDonald in the saddle, takes on nine rivals headed by Darley T J Smith winner Chautauqua and Churchill Dancer, who was won a Group Two over the same course and distance.
John O'Shea said: "Knoydart has great form down the Flemington straight but unfortunately is going into a very strong version of this race.
"I am sure he will give a good account of himself but, being a realist, I suggest he would struggle to beat Chautauqua.
"From gate 10, he should be able to follow Chautauqua and come down the outside with him.
"I would love to see him run into a placing which I am sure he is more than capable of doing as he is in good order."
