Knoydart finished strongly to snatch second in the Group One Ubet BTC Cup over six furlongs at Doomben, Australia, on Saturday, May 9.

The five-year-old, trained by John O'Shea, broke well in the field of 13 and was held up by James McDonald.

He was asked to make some progress turning in and came wide into the straight.

Knoydart produced a powerful run and took fifth before flashing home to gain second close home.

The Godolphin contender finished three quarters of a length behind the winner Hot Snitzel whose time for the six furlongs on good ground was 1m 9.47s.

John O'Shea said: "Knoydart produced a huge run to almost catch the winner.

"From his wide gate, he had to circumnavigate the field which was difficult to do today.

"He tried very hard to run down the winner but James McDonald commented that the horse is in the best form of his career and it is hard to disagree.

"It was a fantastic performance."
