La Quemada grabs third in G3 Kokura Daishoten

La Quemada gained a first G3 placing as he finished strongly to snatch third in the Kokura Daishoten at Kokura, Japan, on Sunday, 23 February.
Making a quick return after finishing ninth in a Kyoto Listed race eight days earlier, the Teruhiko Chida-trained son of American Patriot raced towards the rear as Selberg attempted the stretch the 13-strong field.
La Quemada started to make headway around the field turning in, although his progress was briefly checked when Shonan Addeybb drifted into his path over a furlong from home.
Long Run and Shonan Addeybb collared Selberg in the final strides, with La Quemada also passing the long-time leader in the shadow of the post to take third under Toshiki Akiyama.
