Maternal earns black-type as stable passes 200 wins

A well-deserved black type success was won the impeccably-bred filly Maternal on a landmark day for Godolphin in Australia on Saturday.

Maternal (Darren Beadman/Jeff Lloyd) scored a hard-fought victory in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich in Queensland, confirming her class and strengthening an already impressive pedigree.

While Maternal’s success had wider implications for the local Godolphin and Darley operations, the two-year-old Revenire (Darren Beadman/Corey Brown) grabbed the immediate limelight earlier on the same card when he claimed the stable’s 200th win for the season in Australia.

Revenire, a son of Lonhro, looked a colt of considerable potential as he forced his way into the clear before asserting himself in the non-graded Bundamba Plate.

A further juvenile victory was won by Gaulois in the TAB Handicap at Rosehill in Sydney.

Maternal, a daughter of Street Cry from the four-time G1-winning mare Divine Madonna, had to fight hard to hold off stablemate Kinshachi, surviving by a long head to record her sixth win.

“She deserved that win and the black type that came with it,” said Beadman.

“To come from a wide gate and work hard at both ends was a credit to her.”

The winning treble left the Australian team with 201 wins and almost A$19 million in prizemoney for the season which concludes on July 31.
