Matilija tries seven furlongs for the first time in the Group Three Kari J H B Carr Stakes at Royal Randwick, Australia, on Saturday, April 18.

The three-year-old filly, trained by Lee & Anthony Freedman, has finished third in Group Three races over six furlongs on her two most recent starts - the Dilmah Tea P J Bell Stakes at Royal Randwick on April 6 and the Simpson Typhoon Tracy Stakes at Moonee Valley on February 27.

She started her career with a pair of five-furlong victories at Moonee Valley, scoring by a nose in a handicap on February 6 and easily taking a maiden nearly a year before.

James McDonald, who partnered Matilija in the Dilmah Tea P J Bell Stakes, rides the daughter of Medaglia d'Oro again.

Anthony Freedman commented: "Matilija has had a very good 10 to 12 days at Osborne Park and worked really nicely over half a mile there on Thursday morning.

"I feel the 1,400 metres will really suit her and, with any luck in the run, she should be very hard to beat on her current form."

Matilija faces 11 other fillies including Dilmah Tea P J Bell Stakes second Peeping, Group Two runner-up Supara and recent Warwick Farm scorer Nancy.
