The three-year-old filly, trained by Saeed bin Suroor and ridden by James Doyle, raced keenly as second of the seven-strong field early on before settling better in fourth.
She moved up to press for the lead passing the two-furlong marker but could not quicken with So Mi Dar, who went away from her rivals to win by four lengths in 2m 9.07s on ground described as good, good to firm in places.
Promising Run was joined by Fireglow (Mark Johnston/William Buick) approaching the final furlong and they battled for second, with Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum's filly prevailing by a head to be runner-up.
John Ferguson, Chief Executive and Racing Manager of Godolphin, commented: "Promising Run will probably revert to a mile now.
"She is a G2 winner already and a race like the G1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot (June 17) has to be considered for her.
"Fireglow proved that she was just as effective over this trip as she was over a mile and a possible target is the G3 Prix Chloe over nine furlongs at Chantilly (July 10)."
