My Dubai World Cup Night

By William Buick

I am not going to surprise anybody by saying that Dubai World Cup Night is of huge importance to every one of us at Godolphin.

A winner on this card is like gold dust. It means so much to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed and his family, and you can easily understand why that is so.

Sheikh Mohammed is passionate about racing — every aspect, every dimension of our great sport — and he is fiercely competitive.

The Dubai season, which starts in November, is now very well established, and the Carnival, extending over several weeks, is a popular part of it.

I have been in Dubai most of the winter and I have enjoyed it immensely.

Not only is the weather fantastic, it means less time moving about the country, and it gives you a chance to remain fit and active while not wasting time travelling.

But, most importantly, it gives you the opportunity to be close to the Godolphin horses on a daily basis. The more time you can spend with them in the mornings, getting to know them, the better overall.

Hopefully, there will be some big winners among them back in Britain this year.

As for my rides this weekend, I think I have some very good ones, arguably Blue Point being the pick of them.

But others might argue Gold Town or Rare Rhythm. We have always felt Blue Point to be a genuine G1 horse and the G1 Al Quoz Sprint could play to his strengths.

He has trained and prepared well for the Al Quoz, which should be a cracker of a race.

Dubai World Cup night is among the biggest meetings of the year.

We at Godolphin are fortunate to have a leader, who is so keen to have winners on this card.

We also have followers, who want us to do well.

It is important to all that we achieve that aim. We will give it our best shot.
