Patience to pay off for Dynamited at Doomben

The progressive two-year-old Dynamited will be out to show the benefits of patience when he makes a much-anticipated reappearance in Saturday’s G2 Champagne Classic at Doomben in Brisbane.

On a card when strong Godolphin prospects appear right through the grades, Dynamited (Corey Brown) stands out as a colt capable of reaching lofty heights.

Trainer James Cummings is satisfied the son of Exceed And Excel has what it takes.

“He’s come back looking incredible and should enjoy the step up to Group company here,” Cummings said.

“We haven’t seen him at the races since November when he won on debut at Rosehill, but he gets the opportunity this preparation to prove himself above average.

“He certainly appears to have the scope to go further.”

Dynamited was immediately recognised as one of the best juvenile colts in training when he won at Rosehill, but rather than embark on a Golden Slipper campaign, Cummings chose to give the colt time to develop.

On Saturday he faces the in-form local two-year-olds Mishani Hustler, a winner at four of his five starts, and Pennino who has won three from four.

The Godolphin team will also be represented at Doomben by one of its most consistent performers, Interlocuter who runs in the G3 Chairman’s Handicap, Banish in the G2 Doomben Roses, Astoria in the G3 Rough Habit Plate and Marsupial in the Listed Queensland Day Stakes.

And Cummings makes a case for all of them.

“Interlocuter’s had a solid grounding for this and he looks fitter after some impressive training and I can see him being extremely competitive,” he said.

“Although he was unplaced last time in a solid race, he hit the line well and appears to have found a nice race here.”

Banish steps up to 2000m in an attempt to recapture the form that won her four races last year.

“She’s out to 2000m for the first time after working to the line without threatening last time and after having no luck in a couple of runs earlier in the campaign,” Cummings said.

“If she can make the step up to a middle distance then she appears ready to be a presence here.”

Astoria was placed in the G1 ATC Derby at three, and is another who Cummings believes is ready to return to his best.
