Penwith takes on G1 winners Curalina, Sheer Drama and Angela Renee in the G1 La Troienne Stakes over an extended mile on dirt at Churchill Downs, Kentucky, USA on Friday, May 6.

The Kiaran McLaughlin-trained five-year-old faded to fourth after making the running on her G1 debut in the Santa Margarita Stakes over half a furlong further at Santa Anita in California on March 19.

The mare started her year with two victories at Florida's Gulfstream Park, headed by an impressive victory in the G2 Royal Delta Stakes over an extended mile on February 13.

Luis Saez, who has won three times on Penwith, resumes riding the daughter of Bernardini, who breaks from stall five in a field of seven.

Kiaran McLaughlin commented: "This looks a very strong field but Penwith is doing extremely well and we hope that she can run accordingly.

"It was a strange run in the Santa Margarita Stakes. I think Gary Stevens on Taris was worried about us having an uncontested lead, so he moved up early and pushed us along, which cost us both.

"There is not a lot of pace in this race and Penwith will be on or near the lead and, hopefully, we can get lucky."
