Stepping up to a mile for the first time, the Richard Fahey-trained colt broke well for William Buick and tracked Galileo Gold down the middle of the course as the 13 runners split into two groups early on.
Ribchester travelled well behind the leaders as the field converged at the halfway point and stayed on to take third approaching the final quarter-mile.
He continued to battle away in the closing stages, going down by three and a half lengths in total to Galileo Gold, who scored in 1m 35.91s on ground described as good to soft, good in places.
Richard Fahey commented: "I am very happy with Ribchester. He is still a weak horse, who is still maturing. I think he is going to get better and better as he gets older.
"He will have a bit of a break now and go straight to Royal Ascot for the G1 St James's Palace Stakes (June 14)."
