Romsdal goes for a first Group race success in the Betfred Geoffrey Freer Stakes over an extended 13 furlongs at Newbury, UK, on Saturday, August 15.
The four-year-old son of Halling, trained by John Gosden, ran a superb race to finish third, beaten less than four lengths, in the 12-furlong Group One King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored By QIPCO) at Ascot on July 25.
He was fourth over 14 furlongs in the Group Two Betway Yorkshire Cup at York on May 15 and came home third in the 12-furlong Group Three Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Stakes at Newbury on April 18
Romsdal started his year with an easy win in a Polytrack Listed race over 10 furlongs at Kempton Park on March 28 and ran with great credit in two British Classics last year, taking second in the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster and coming home third in the Investec Derby at Epsom Downs.
John Gosden said: "Romsdal ran a great race in the King George and the rain has come again for Newbury. He goes there with every chance."
Romsdal, with James Doyle in the saddle, faces eight rivals including three-time Emirates Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux and dual Group Two winner Gospel Choir plus Listed scorers Ayrad and Agent Murphy.
Kite Wood (2009) and Royal Empire (2013) have been successful in the Geoffrey Freer Stakes for Godolphin.
