Godolphin’s longest-serving trainer Saeed bin Suroor has been honoured at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Awards in Dubai.

Saeed collected the Local Trainer Award for his contribution to horseracing as a pioneer in his field of training thoroughbreds.

His citation added: ‘He has carried the name of his country internationally, winning at the highest level in many countries around the world.”

Saeed, who joined Godolphin in 1995, has enjoyed phenomenal success since first capturing global sporting headlines as the trainer of the 1995 G1 Epsom Derby winner Lammtarra.

Among many achievements, he has been Champion trainer in Britain four times, he has won 12 British Classics (all of them at least once), including five G1 Doncaster St Legers, as well as saddling the winners of three G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphes.

On the domestic front, Saeed has trained the winners of seven G1 Dubai World Cups and been leading trainer at the Dubai World Cup Carnival eight times.

Overall, he has trained more than 2,100 winners worldwide, including 180 at G1 level.

He is also no stranger to winning awards — in 2015, he picked up a UAE Pioneer Award for his services to horseracing.

On learning that he had been recognised in these latest Creative Sports Awards, Saeed said: “This award is a huge achievement for my career and I am incredibly grateful to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed for the opportunity, guidance and support that he has shown me.”
