Sampeah ran a decent third in the Group Two VRC Sires' Produce Stakes over seven furlongs at Flemington, Australia, on Saturday, March 14.
The two-year-old Exceed And Excel colt, from John O'Shea's stables, was soon prominent under James Doyle and then raced sixth of the 12 runners.
He had nowhere to go turning into the straight with two furlongs remaining but kept on well to take third at the distance and held on to that position in the closing stages.
Jameka won by a length from Lazumba, with another two and a quarter lengths back to Sampeah.
The winner's time was 1m 24.64s.
John O'Shea said: "Approaching the corner, Sampeah was boxed in between runners but at the 300-metre mark he got clear and went for home very strongly, making up a lot of ground.
"I thought he did a really good job because he had no momentum at any stage, being cluttered up.
"We rode him up closer than normal trying to get to the better part of the track; I think he is probably better when ridden a little quieter but he put in an honest run."
