Second For Shards

Shards finished runner-up in the Group Two Dyldam Stan Fox Stakes over seven and a half furlongs at Rosehill Gardens, Australia, on Saturday, September 26.

The John O'Shea-trained three-year-old Medaglia d'Oro colt, with Sam Clipperton up, was slightly slow into stride.

He was ridden and recovered to race a close third, before being settled back in the same position.

Shards moved up again turning in and came through to challenge, disputing the running a furlong and a half out and kept on but had no answer to Press Statement who swept by to win easily by three lengths in 1m 29.32s on good to soft ground.

John O'Shea said: "Shards is back in the game, travelled well, got to the right part of the track, was a little flat-footed late but overall it was a much improved performance."
