Vashka ran well to finish a close third in the Group Three Sky Thoroughbred Central Show County Quality over six furlongs at Royal Randwick, Australia, on Saturday, August 22.

The five-year-old son of Exceed And Excel, having his first start since April, raced in fourth on the inside initially before improving to second.

Switched off the inside rail turning in by Tommy Berry, he had every chance in the straight and kept on without quite getting to the leader.

Vashka was beaten a neck and a nose respectively by the winner Decision Time, whose time was 1m 9.05s on good ground, and the second Boss Lane.

Trainer John O'Shea remarked: "It was a really good performance by Vashka although I thought the jockey erred by not leading on him.

"He is a much better horse when leading from the front but he still fought on really well and had a good day out. He will now go to the Theo Marks Stakes (Group Two, 6f 110y, Rosehill Gardens, September 12) and should be very hard to beat."
