Silver Knott completed back-to-back G2 wins in the United States this year as he swept by Nations Pride in the home stretch to take the Man o’War Stakes at Aqueduct on Saturday, 11 May,
Successful in the G2 Elkhorn Stakes on his four-year-old return for Charlie Appleby, Silver Knott soon settled in a clear third behind So High and Nations Pride, who was rushed up around the field to take second.
A strung-out field started to close on So High leaving the back, with Nations Pride looming up on the outside of the leader to take up the running at the top of the home straight.
Silver Knott tracked his stable-mate through and grabbed the lead a furlong and a half out before storming clear under Flavien Prat, who eased his mount close home to prevail by four and a half lengths.
Nations Pride kept on but was caught for second in the final strides by Ohana Honor.
Flavien Prat said: “It turned out well. Silver Knott got himself into the race and I was able to get in behind a good horse. We travelled well – he was in a good rhythm – and really kicked on strongly. I think the pace was good for Silver Knott, who was able to relax, and he’s a good horse. When I called on him, he responded really well.”
